1. Guidelines for chairpersons / discussants
Each parallel session will last between 1 hour and 20 minutes and 2h. 2 to 3 papers are scheduled to be discussed in a session. Each paper will be given around 35 minutes for presentation and discussion. We recommend using 20 minutes for presentation and 10 to 15 minutes for discussion (5 minutes : discussion by the chairperson/ or discussant appointed by him/her at an earlier date and 10 minutes: discussion with the audience).
As chairperson, you are responsible for the smooth running of the presentations and for ensuring that speakers follow the session schedule. Running the session:
- Please make sure to be in the conference room at least 5 minutes before the start of the session.
- Please introduce the session and also the presenters at the start of each presentation.
- Please monitor the time allocated to each presenter and manage the questions and discussion so that the schedule is maintained and each paper is treated with fairness and respect.
- If there are any IT issues, a room responsible will be available in every conference room.
- The chairperson may act as the discussant or appointed one or several discussants.
As discussant, your role is to:
- Read the papers in advance,
- Identify themes or issues for debate in the session, and ways to improve the paper.
